Around 2004 I went down to Mexico City on what would mark the beginning of the most exciting adventures of my young 20s. These travels took me all through Mexico and I made it even as far as Cuba where I spent a few months learning trumpet and Cuban percussion. On my way back to Canada via Mexico once again, I met Gabriel 'Queso' Bronfman (Resorte, QUEM, Natalia Lafourcade) and this encounter put us on a trajectory that would lead to some of the most creative exchanges, shows, and explorations in the studio. We became instant brothers.

By 2006, Queso invited my back down to Mexico City where we would throw ourselves fully into what would become People Project. We were joined by a number and surrounded by a number of creative people including Steven Patterson (Souljazz Orchestra), Maria Emilia Martinez, Ernesto 'Neto' Garcia, Natalia Lafourcade, and eventually others like Yusa, Rommel Ribeiro and the list goes on.

For myself, it felt to me that we were catching the tail end of the 90s,. like Mexico was still this place where you had big album, big label vibe behind us, with the studio on lockout and we would just pop in and out at all hours. We wrote most of the album as we recorded it with a whole crew behind us... just an absolute dream to be somewhere so far away, so different, working through language and ideas as such a fiery, agitated pace booming with too many ideas to catch them all but no shortage of magic as it all just came together.

This here is the beginning of what was just such a beautiful project eventually to a second album, tours across Canada, Mexico, some dates in Europe... a project that had its time but that we hope deeply that we can revive some day and reconnect.

For myself, this is an album that captures raw, youthful creative spirit...the very beginning of a group of hopeful, bright-eyed young musicians stepping out onto a magnificient artistic journey.

I have a studio in downtown Ottawa, Canada where I work with a hybrid of studio equipment old and new: analog consoles, vintage keyboards, reel-to-reels but also modern day rec equip, synths, etc.
